Almost every sixth person lived in a household in arrears in 2020

The results of the SILC 2020 survey conducted by DemoSCOPE were published by the Federal Statistical Office FSO. Besides arrears, vehicle leases are the most common type of debt in Switzerland.

In 2020, 15.5% of the population lived in a household with at least one vehicle lease and 14.9% lived in a household with at least one payment arrears in the preceding twelve months. In addition to arrears and vehicle leases, debt types include small or consumer loans, instalment payments, debts to family or friends, mortgages other than on the main residence, and overdrafts or unpaid credit card bills. Taking all of these types of debt into account, 42.9% of the population lived in a household with at least one debt in 2020.

9. impact measurement of prevention work by the Federal Office of Public Health FOPH

The Federal Office of Public Health FOPH publishes the latest data from the tracking study, which has been running since 2020.

Since the beginning of the Covid 19 pandemic, DemoSCOPE has been conducting periodic impact measurements on the level of information, attitudes and behaviour of the population on behalf of the Federal Office of Public Health FOPH. After a good two years, the acceptance and effectiveness of the prevention work in the context of the coronavirus could be examined, among other things. Furthermore, the various opinions, needs and behaviours of the Swiss population can be traced over time.
With the abolition of most prevention measures as of 17 February 2022, it was appropriate to survey a new status quo. Consequently, we conducted the ninth data collection between 23 February and 1 March 2022. It is currently apparent, for example, that the rules of conduct communicated by the FOPH in the course of the pandemic remain deeply anchored in the consciousness of the Swiss population.

DemoSCOPE certified according to ISO 20252:2019

Market, opinion and social research including gaining knowledge through data analysis

In the summer of 2021, DemoSCOPE decided to no longer emphasise its commitment to the highest service, process and data quality exclusively through its memberships in Swiss Insights and ESOMAR, but also to be certified according to the ISO Standard 20252:2019 for market, opinion and social research. Since spring 2022, DemoSCOPE is now allowed to carry this certificate! The ISO standard 20252 describes an international, industry-specific quality standard in which all aspects and sub-processes of our research are taken into account. From proposal preparation, telephone (CATI) or face-to-face (CAPI) data collection, panel management (integrating the former ISO standard 26362) for online surveys (CAWI), to analyses and resulting research reports, as well as the general areas of our work from staff development to data security, everything is covered by it. Quality assurance in our fields of activity is a multi-layered and by no means trivial task that challenges us every day and in every project. That is why it is important for us to see the high quality in all areas of our work now confirmed in accordance with this international standard.

Employer survey of the Federal Social Insurance Office 2021

The Federal Social Insurance Office has published the data we collected with Swiss employers.

The employer survey of the Federal Social Insurance Office has been conducted by DemoSCOPE at irregular intervals since 2008. 2,300 employers were surveyed in 2021. The latest data from the employer survey show that the Disability Insurance (DI) is generally perceived positively. At the same time, however, it is also clear that employers are still not very familiar with the tasks of the DI, its benefits and instruments. In addition, it also becomes evident that only a few companies have continued to employ employees if they were no longer able to continue working to the same extent or in the same area after an illness or accident. The development of the employer survey over the years also shows the changing methodology of market and applied social research: While the early studies were conducted purely as telephone surveys, the current survey was conducted as a mixed-mode study based on online as well as telephone interviews.

Community survey in Wiesendangen as a political decision-making aid

The full survey with the very high level of willingness to participate on the part of the Wiesendang population also makes it possible to clearly grasp the effects of controversially discussed topics on the mood of the community residents.

Surveys are particularly relevant in the context of regional politics, as in the example of Wiesendangen: Our neutral survey of the mood and opinion of the population provides clear information for politicians. The full survey with the very high willingness of the Wiesendangen population to participate also allows us to clearly grasp the effects of controversially discussed topics on the mood of the community residents. These were important topics such as flood protection, leisure activities and changes in infrastructure, as Urs Borer adds in an interview.

Company survey of the city of Zurich 2021

The city of Zurich has published the data we collected with companies and self-employed persons in the city of Zurich.

Since 2005, the City of Zurich's company survey has been an important tool for finding out how companies and the self-employed view Zurich as a business location, as well as their concerns and needs. In the summer of 2021, DemoSCOPE was allowed to conduct the company survey for the fifth time already. The results are based on the responses of 1,436 companies. The data analyses show that the overall satisfaction of the companies surveyed with Zurich as a business location and their assessment of future prospects are pleasingly positive despite the coronavirus pandemic. Further results can be found in the published study report 2021.
